Mercy Mission 2009 AAIC - "Walking in the shadow of Giants"
2009 Annual Australian Islamic Conference
This year's conference hopes to build on the outcomes from 2008's AAIC by outlining the best way for the Australian Muslim community to achieve the vision and goals set for their future.
Theme: "WALKING IN THE SHADOW OF GIANTS"
When Muslims were the most steadfast upon their Deen, they were a great civilisation. This urbane and intellectual Muslim civilisation left behind an enormous legacy of knowledge which contributed to the start of the first renaissance in Spain during the 12th century, the dark ages of European civilisation.
The conference will InshaAllah take everyone back to our treasured Islamic Legacy left by the distinguished group of the Sahabah of the Prophet (saw), the generations that came immediately after them and the great scholars and intellectuals in the first 500 years or so of the Islamic civilisation. They can rightfully be called the 'Giants' of our Deen as they have left behind the 'shade' of a rich legacy for us - a shade which will make us successful in this world and give us comfort and refuge on the Day of Judgement inshaAllah.
Muslims must learn from the example of these giants in all key aspects of life, beginning with our relationship with Allah (swt), then with our relationship with each other, and finally with our relationship with non-Muslims. We need to become better people before we can become better societies. We need to do the moral and right thing not only because there is some wordly benefit in terms of happiness, pleasure or material wealth (i.e. utilitarianisms), but because this is our way, the Islamic way.
This year's conference hopes to drive home all these points and uncover many more so we can accelerate our journey to achieving the vision we established for our future as Muslims in Australia.
