lecture on christianity & Islam
ok so today in the Hooper lec theatre there was this tool call 'JAy' who gave a lecture on islam and christ.....
the first part was good, he seemed really objective and all (hes a full on christian missionary)
anyway the last part he was sooooooo biased and kept having a go at this poor little girl in hijab who was trying to defend Islam in a way and he just kept hammering her and telling her 'wheres ur proof'
LATROBE asked preston mosque if they could send a representative for the muslims so it was more fair but the just 'couldn't'
im so angry at 'jay'

Re: lecture on christianity & Islam
Salam alayki sis,
Just so we know whether or not it's worth responding to these events, can you please let me know as accurately as possible who, and how many people were in attendance?
If it is only the christian society and their stubborn followers, then responding to such events will be of no use, and will merely be a waste of time and energy. But if there are people from the genral public attending and perhaps being influenced, then its our duty to respond to such events..
Please let me know when you get a chance.
Jazaakillahu khaira

Re: lecture on christianity & Islam
Asalamu alaykum dear br/sr,
SubhanaAllah, I also went to one before the break and i was
very disappointed by their lack of knowledge about our beautiful deenal islam, yet they have the courage to act like scholars and dae's.
They were giving references (verses) from the Quran that wasnt even quoted right, which made me even more angry!!!
]"Oh Allah,Forgive me all my sins, the small and great of them, the first and last of them and the seen and the hidden of them" Ameen!..

Re: lecture on christianity & Islam
Salam.
I have attended a few of these lectures and have similar feelings.
Generally speaking the Christian speaker will have superficial knowledge of certain ayat. Some will even present weak hadith, or sahih hadith out of context.
In my discussions Christians will often bring up these points:
- Jihad and the concept of Tit for Tat, the 'violent' nature of Islam and extremism. Islam was spread by the sword on so on.
- Polygamy and the manipulation of women.
- Hijab and the limitation of women.
- Slavery, why wasn't it abolished.
I could go on, but you get the picture. It helps to have some knowledge of the Quran and Hadith in relation to these matters, more importantly knowledge of the historical background of various events and the implementation of various Islamic laws is essential. A good site is http://www.answering-christianity.com/, although it is a bit clustered it has some good rebuttals in there.
Finally it is important to remember they are the Ahlul Kitab so be careful in how you do Dawah, taking the right steps can have fruitful results (such as pointing out the fallacies of the Trinity concept). After all, Allah SWT guides who he pleases and there are many Christian reverts.
Walaikum-as-Salam.
Ali.
