The Friday Vault of Deeds
A dear friend has this section on her blog: www.ummkhawla.wordpress.com - so I thought to share it with everyone here~
Verily! Man is in loss,
Except those who believe (in Islamic Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds, and recommend one another to the truth (i.e. order one another to perform all kinds of good deeds which Allah has ordained, and abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds), and recommend one another to patience. [al-`Asr; 2-3]
In the spirit of livening up our Fridays as blessed as they are, I have decided to make a depository of good deeds, small actions that can be done on a weekly basis. It will be updated every Thursday bi idhnillaah.
Why call it the ‘Vault’?
I have called it a vault because good deeds should be kept hidden from people. They are like an elixir that purify our hearts and brings us closer to Allaah, but only when they are done solely for His sake.
Mahmood ibn Lubayd reported that RasoolAllaah sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam said: “For you, my greatest fear is minor shirk.” The companions said: “O Messenger of Allaaah, what is minor shirk?” He replied: “Showing off (ar-riyaa’), for verily Allaah will say on the Day of Resurrection when people are receiving their rewards: ‘Go to those whom you were showing off to in the world and see if you can find any reward from them.’” (Ahmad, at-Tabaraanee, al-Bayhaqee)
Ibn ‘Abbas radiyAllaahu `anh said: “Riyaa‘ is more hidden than a black ant on a black stone in a dark night.”
So let’s purify our intentions and compete with each other only in that which will beautify our souls and our aakhirah.
And march forth in the way (which leads to) forgiveness from your Lord, and for Paradise as wide as are the heavens and the earth, prepared for Al-Muttaqun. Those who spend [in Allah's Cause - deeds of charity, alms, etc.] in prosperity and in adversity, who repress anger, and who pardon men; verily, Allaah loves Al-Muhsinun.

The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wasallam said: “..And smiling in the face of your brother is charity..”
When we think of charity, first thing that comes to mind is money. Fortunately though, our beautiful deen – most perfect and complete in every way and aspect of our lives – teaches us that every act of kindness including a smile is charity. So what better way than to starting your day with a smile?
Go ahead and smile at those around you (sisters smile to sisters and brothers smile to brothers)

Note: We might smile at those outside our house but the moment we step in to our homes, our faces usually pull down as if dragged by gravity into a frown! So please, start with your family ...

Re: The Friday Vault of Deeds
Each letter x 10
“Whoever reads a letter from the Book of Allaah, he will have a reward. And that reward will be multiplied by ten. I am not saying that “Alif, Laam, Meem” is a letter, rather I am saying that “Alif” is a letter, “laam” is a letter and “meem” is a letter.”[Narrated in at-Tirmidhi]
This is a deed that is often overlooked and not implemented upon on a regular basis. Subhaan’Allaah imagine the reward one would get by reciting even just a page from the mus-haf. I was thinking about this while reciting soorah al-Kahf, imagine this: this soorah has 6,360 letters, times that with 10 and you have earned yourself a total of 63,600 rewards! Think about how easily you can add to your depository of good deeds. Indeed, sins have been beautified but only for those whose hearts are void of the remembrance of Allaah. Whereas, those who keep their tongues busy with the recitation of Qur’aan are only elevated in ranks in both this dunya and the aakhirah.

Get Your Cleaning Gloves Ready!
When the woman who used to clean the Masjid died (while he was unaware of it) the Prophet ( صلى الله عليه وسلم ) asked about her. Abu Hurayrah ( رضي الله عنه ) narrated: A dark complexioned woman (or a youth) used to sweep the mosque. The Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم missed her (or him) and inquired about her (or him). The people told him that she (or he) had died. He asked why they did not inform him, and it appears as if they had treated her (or him) or her (or his) affairs as of little account. He (the Prophet) said: Lead me to her (or his) grave. They led him to that place and he said prayer over her (or him) and then remarked: Verily, these graves are full of darkness for their dwellers. Verily, the Mighty and Glorious Allaah illuminates them for their occupants by reason of my prayer over them.
[Saheeh Muslim, the Book of Prayer, No. 2088]
I know shaytaan has a number of ways to make us either procrastinate or come up with a 101 excuses for not being able to commit to a good deed on a regular (everyday) basis, but during this blessed month we all make an extra effort to go for taraweeh, so staying back a little later on a Friday night wouldn’t hurt! Besides, other than the fact that our reward is multiplied manifold by Allaah, its also a good training experience for brothers.
Now lets get our cleaning gloves ready!

Thats so true yasmin, there are so many muslims out there that only do good things in Ramadan and its sad to see things like that happen. May Allah (s.w.t) strengthen our iman and keep us all steadfast. Ameen.
